Prof. Yehuda Afek

Yehuda Afek received a B.A.from the Technion in Electrical Engineering, and M.Sc and Ph.D. from University of California Los-Angeles (UCLA) in 1983 and 1985 respectively, both in Computer Science. He was a Member of Technical Staff at AT&T Bell-Labs from 1985 to 1988 when he joined the computer science department at Tel-Aviv University.  He was a consultant for AT&T research labs from 1988 to 2000. In 2001 he co-founded Riverhead Networks, which was the only company to provide a real solution to the Distributed Denial of Service attacks on the Internet, and have kept many Fortune-5 and 500 companies in the air despite being attacked.  Riverhead was acquired by Cisco in 2004, when he became a director at Cisco, where his group was involved in transforming several security applications into multi-core architectures.

Dr. Afek has over 30 years of experience in designing algorithm and data structures for distributed networks and shared memory, and has authored over a hundred journal and conference papers and over ten patents.

Research:  Distributed Computing, Internet Security, Deep packet inspection, Networking.

Few Cyber related work:

1.  Developed and produced a working solution to protect enterprises, service providers and countries from distributed denial of service attacks.  The solution allows the target(s) to continue it's normal service while under attack.

2.  Automated Signature Extraction for High Volume Attacks, joined work with Anat Bremler-Barr and Shir Landau

3.   MCA2: multi-core architecture for mitigating complexity attacks, joined work with Anat Bremler-Barr, Yotam Harchol, David Hay, and Yaron Koral
