Prof. Michael Birnhack

Michael Birnhack is a Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, Tel Aviv University. His research focuses on legal aspects of information flows – its limitations (freedom of expression), control (privacy) and commercialization (intellectual property). Michael teaches and studies the relationship between law and information technology, based on the understanding that both law and technology are social constructs. His research covers issues such as privacy and biometrics, privacy by design, data leakage, CCTV in schools, and more. Michael supervises PhD students in these fields. He served as a member of the Public Council for the Protection of Privacy, a member of an expert committee on Israel’s data protection law, and a sub-contractor for the EU Commission on Israel’s data protection.
